There are a number of other webcams with a built-in microphone currently available that you might also want to consider including the Logitech 960-000842-981-000094, the LogiLink UA0075, or the Thrustmaster Link which has better reviews.

The Optical Glass does not have a motion detector. Most of the other webcams that have been around for more than two years also do not have a motion detector.

Like most of the other low megapixel webcams that were released more than two years ago, the Hercules Optical Glass is not USB powered.

Webcams which are USB powered that might be worth looking at include the MT4040, or the MT4030K both from Mediatech or the Logitech 960-000271.

At only 3 times zoom factor, the Optical Glass has a fairly small digital zoom compared to most of the other low megapixel webcams that were launched around the same time as the Optical Glass.

The Hercules Optical Glass is not full HD, although it is worth noting that most of the other webcams of a comparable age and type to the Optical Glass are also not full HD.

If you want a webcam that is full HD then you might want to consider the Thrustmaster Link, the Logitech TV Cam HD, or the Hama Digital Eye II PRO which is also higher rated.

Average Maximum Frame Rate

At 30 frames per second, the Optical Glass has a pretty standard maximum frame rate compared to most of the other low megapixel webcams that are a comparable age to the Optical Glass.

We compared this webcam to all the other 30fps maximum frame rate webcams and we think the Pyle PLCM19, the Microsoft LifeCam HD-3000 ($26.99), and the Logitech B500 which has better reviews is also worth considering.

If you would prefer a higher maximum frame rate then you might want to consider the Gembird CAM0360U-1 (60fps), or the Konig CMP-WEBCAM3D10 (60fps) which also has a higher rating.
