Buying a New Toaster

Toasters are an absolute necessity in any kitchen - how else are you going to make a proper breakfast? There are numerous choices of toaster available to you - from small 2-slice toasters meant for tiny kitchens and single people, through to enormous 6-slice toasters to serve entire families at once. These are available in all kinds of shapes and colours - allowing you to pick the perfect colour to complement your kitchen.

You can also pick a toaster with a number of different extras - such as a special warmer for buns and croissants, warming & defrost settings, and even a viewing window to watch your toast cook!

Toaster Sizes

This is the most fundamental choice when choosing a toaster - how much bread it can cook at once. Most toasters have 2 slots, allowing 2 pieces of toast to be cooked at once. For most single people or small families this will be enough, since you will rarely need to toast more than 2 pieces of bread at once. However for larger families there are toasters with 4 or even 6 slots - these allow for a far larger amount of bread to be cooked at once.

Some toasters also advertise themselves with ‘long slots’, which mean they have extra-long opening for the bread - which is especially useful for wider, squatter loaves, such as sourdough, or for fitting more slices into a single slot.

Lastly, we have some models of toaster that have a 'high lift' feature built in. This allow you raise the toaster lever up and raise the bread clear of the toasting slots, making it easier to remove. This is a helpful extra if you find yourself frequently toasting crumpets, muffins or small slices of bread.

Custom browning levels & programs

Nearly all major brands of toasters allow you to change the time the bread is toasted for, allowing you to cook the toast to exactly how you like it. Some newer models also contain preset ‘browning levels’, allowing one-touch light/medium/dark browning for your breakfast. While this is not a must-have addition, it can certainly make your life easier first thing in the morning, before your morning coffee has woken you up.

Additionally, many toasters will also contain additional preset programs for defrosting frozen bread, cooking bagels, or for warming toast back up again.

Some more advanced and expensive models of toaster have an added visual flair to them - a glass viewing window in one or both sides of the toaster. As well as serving an aesthetic value, it also allows you to more clearly see how your bread is toasting, so you can pause the toasting at the correct time.

Extras

Finally, some toasters come with additional extras, either purely aesthetic or to provide additional uses. These can include things such as a special warming rack that can be used for buns or croissants, a special holder for making toasties, or a viewing window that allows you to watch your bagels browning as you sip your morning coffee.

In total we found 86 toasters ranging from $11 to $386. A new toaster costs on average $110 and 80% of toasters are priced between $33 and $245. The most expensive toaster that we found is the DeLonghi CTI 2103 at $385, and the cheapest is the Brentwood Appliances TS260B at only $12.

Toaster Brands - Price Range

The highest average toaster price out of all brands is Moulinex toasters with an average price of $280. Moulinex toasters start at $280 and their most expensive toaster costs $280.

The average price of WMF toasters is $277 which is the second highest average price of all toaster brands. WMF toasters start at $277 and their most expensive toaster costs $277.

The average price of Smeg toasters is $252 which is the third highest average price of all toaster brands. Smeg toasters range in price from $179 to $326.

We have checked 64 expert reviews and 13,923 user reviews for toasters and used this information to determine the average rating for each brand of toaster. Russell Hobbs is the top rated toaster brand with an average rating of 83%. Morphy Richards is the second best brand with 79% and Breville is the third best brand with 77%.

Biggest Toaster Retailers

The biggest toaster retailer by number of products currently for sale is eBay. We found 86 current toaster offers from eBay. The second biggest retailer is Overstock with 15 offers. That means eBay is over 5 times bigger than Overstock when it comes to toasters. Appliances Connection is the third biggest retailer with 3 current offers.

When Are Most New Toasters Released?

Most new toasters tend to be released between April and June. That means that most of the latest toaster technology was released in within the last 3 months, and now is good time to buy. June was the biggest month in 2020 for new toasters, with 12 new toasters released that month. In 2019 most new toasters were released in April, with 15 new toasters released that month. The biggest month in 2018 for new toaster releases was February, with 20 new toasters released that month.

Across the range of toasters, the slices range from 1 slice to 8 slice. The slices of most toasters range from 2 slice to 3 slice. The toaster with the most slice is the Philips HD258390, which is a toaster that takes 8 slice slices and is on sale for $125.99. The KitchenAid 5KMT3115, which can be purchased for $244.90, has the least slice and is a toaster that takes 1 slice slice.

Colours

The main colour of the toaster.

Black is the most common colour amongst new toasters. We found 243 toasters that are toasters that have a black coloured. Stainless steel is the second most common colour amongst new toasters. We found 210 toasters that are toasters that have a stainless steel coloured.

Which Are the Cheapest Retailers for Toasters?
