Good Picture Quality

Two people said in their reviews that it had good picture quality.

Good Product Quality

Several Philips HDP1550 reviewers agreed that the Philips HDP1550 was good quality. Pompompom said in their review of this projector on Amazon “The picture quality is ok if you sit far enough, mind you” however despite that they gave it a score of 40 out of 100. Roop mentioned on Amazon two years ago “As they say about 40 inches away from the wall the picture quality is good” but in spite of that they only gave it a score of 60 out of 100.


One customer reckoned that the Philips HDP1550 was well made. Pompompom said on Amazon two years ago “Fantastic engineering ideas and poor execution (unless I've been really unlucky”.

Good Sound Quality

One customer wrote that the product had good sound quality. Pompompom wrote “A small, portable box which can replace your big black TV, avoids wires all across the room and has sound? Count me in! I bought it”.

Supports 3D

The HDP1550 supports 3D, as do most of the other projectors that have been available for around the same time as the HDP1550.

We compared this multimedia projector to all the other projectors which support 3D and we think the HDP1590/UK[pl_2102620_price], the HDP1550TV[pl_2930726_price], and the HDP1590TV[pl_2930725_price] all from Philips which has better reviews is also worth considering.

The HDP1550 supports a maximum resolution of 1920 x 1080 (HD 1080). That's over six times the resolution of a 640 x 480 (VGA) projector, which is the most frequently found resolution supported by data projectors of a comparable spec and age to the HDP1550. 640 x 480 (VGA) is also supported by this data projector. This projector also support supported graphics resolutionss of 800 x 600 (SVGA) and 1024 x 768 (XGA) and 1280 x 768 (WXGA). The resolution of all similar spec projectors that have been available for a comparable time to the HDP1550 ranges from 640 x 480 (VGA) (worst) to 4096 x 2160 (best).

At only 25 decibels, the Philips HDP1550 has a quite quiet noise level compared to most of the other projectors of a comparable type and age to the HDP1550. The quietest noise level of 100000:1 contrast ratio data projectors that were released one year ago is 25dB, the loudest is 34dB, and the average noise level is 28dB.

We looked at average ratings for each data projector manufacturer and found that whilst Philips has unexceptional average ratings across all data projectors, Philips has good ratings specifically for its 100000:1 contrast ratio data projectors.

Does Not Support Full HD

The Philips HDP1550 does not support full HD. Most of the other projectors of this type and age also do not support full HD.

It is worth also looking at alternative multimedia projectors which also support full HD including the HDP1550TV[pl_2930726_price], or the HDP1590TV[pl_2930725_price] both from Philips which also has a higher rating.

Does Not Support Wi-Fi

The HDP1550 does not support wi-Fi. Most of the other similar spec data projectors that came out more than a year ago also do not support wi-Fi.

We compared this projector to all the other multimedia projectors with a wi-Fi and we think the HDP1590/UK[pl_2102620_price], or the HDP1590TV[pl_2930725_price] both from Philips which is also higher rated is also worth considering.
