12 Reasons For
Optoma Has Good Projector Reviews
Based on 1,734 owner and expert reviews, Optoma has good reviews for its projectors. Optoma also has good reviews specifically for its data projectors compared to other manufacturers.
Only Released Seven Months Ago
Optoma only released the EH331 seven months ago.
The Optoma EH331 supports 3D, which is unusual. Most of the other data projectors that were released around the same time as the EH331 do not support 3D.
Alternative projectors which support 3D currently available that you might also want to consider include cheaper data projectors such as the PJD7326 ($649.99), or the PJD7526W ($699.99) both from Viewsonic or the Benq 9H.JED77.23E.
Supports Full HD
Unlike most of the other multimedia projectors that were released around the same time as the EH331 which do not support full HD, the Optoma EH331 supports full HD.
We compared all the other projectors which support full HD to this data projector and we think the Benq 9H.JED77.23E, and the Viewsonic Pro7827HD ($799.99) which is cheaper is also worth considering.
It is worth considering alternative data projectors which also support full HD including the Optoma EH345 ($669.61).
Has a Built-In Speaker(s)
Like most of the other data projectors that were released around the same time as the EH331, the Optoma EH331 has a built-in speaker(s).
We compared this projector to all the other projectors with a built-in speaker(s) and we think cheaper data projectors such as the PJD7326 ($649.99), and the PJD7526W ($699.99) both from Viewsonic or the Benq 9H.JED77.23E is also worth considering.
1080p (1920x1080) Projector Native Resolution
This data projector has a projector native resolution of 1080p (1920x1080), which is typical of many latest data projectors.
+7 More reasons for
1920 X 1080 (HD 1080) Supported Graphics Resolutions
The Optoma EH331 supports a maximum resolution of 1920 x 1080 (HD 1080). That's over six times the resolution of a 640 x 480 (VGA) multimedia projector, which is the most frequently found resolution supported by similar spec data projectors that were launched in the last 12 months. 640 x 480 (VGA) is also supported by this multimedia projector. This projector also support supported graphics resolutionss of 800 x 600 (SVGA), 1024 x 768 (XGA), 1280 x 1024 (SXGA), 1280 x 768 (WXGA) and 1360 x 768 (WXGA) and 1600 x 1200 (UXGA). The best resolution of all projectors that have been around for a comparable time to the EH331 is 1920 x 1200 (WUXGA) and the worst is 640 x 480 (VGA).
Two Number of Built-In Speakerss
Most of the other data projectors that are a comparable age to the EH331 only have one number of built-in speakers, however the Optoma EH331 has two number of built-in speakerss.
Quite Long Service Life of Lamp
The Optoma EH331 has one of the longer service life of lamps (10,000 hours) amongst similar spec projectors of this age. The shortest service life of lamp of data projectors that are a similar age to the EH331 is 250h, the longest is 30,000h, and the average service life of lamp is 6,900h.
Quite Quiet Noise Level
With a noise level of only 29 decibels, the Optoma EH331 has one of the quieter noise levels amongst data projectors of this age. Across all the similar spec projectors that are a comparable age to the EH331 the noise levels range from 22dB to 40dB.
If you would consider a multimedia projector with a louder noise level then you might want to look at the Pro7827HD ($799.99) (36dB), the PJD7326 ($649.99) (36dB), or the PJD7526W ($699.99) (36dB) all from Viewsonic which is also cheaper.
With a weight of only 2.2 kilograms, the Optoma EH331 is one of the lighter new data projectors amongst projectors of this age. The lightest latest projector is 2.7g heavy, the heaviest is 28kg, and the average weight is 6.3kg.
Very Low Power Consumption (economy Mode)
Across all the data projectors that were released around the same time as the EH331 the power consumption (economy mode)s range from 180W to 850W, and the average power consumption (economy mode) is 250W. At only 187 Watts, the Optoma EH331 has a fairly low power consumption (economy mode) compared to most of the other projectors that have been available for around the same time as the EH331.
7 Reasons Against
Does Not Support Wi-Fi
Like most of the other projectors that were launched around the same time as the EH331, the Optoma EH331 does not support wi-Fi.
Quite Small Uniformity
The uniformitys of data projectors that were launched in the last year range from 70% to 90%. When compared to other newly released comparable spec projectors that we have checked, the Optoma EH331's uniformity of only 70 percent is one of the smallest.
Very Small Bulb Power
Across all the new data projectors the bulb powers range from 190W to 470W. With a bulb power of only 195 Watts, the Optoma EH331 has one of the smaller bulb powers amongst data projectors of this age.
Very Low Horizontal Synchronization (max)
With a horizontal synchronization (max) of only 91 kilohertz, the Optoma EH331 has one of the lower horizontal synchronization (max)s amongst data projectors of this age. The horizontal synchronization (max)s of data projectors that are a comparable age to the EH331 range from 0.1kHz to 100,000kHz.
+4 More reasons against
Quite Low RMS Rated Power
The average RMS rated power of data projectors that are a similar age to the EH331 is 8.1W, and the RMS rated powers range from 1W to 20W. With an RMS rated power of only 2 Watts, the Optoma EH331 has one of the lowest RMS rated powers amongst projectors of this age.
Only One HDMI Ports Quantity
Most recently released similar spec projectors have between one and three HDMI ports quantitys, including the Optoma EH331 which has one HDMI ports quantity.
Quite Small Matrix Size
Data projectors that were released around the same time as the EH331 have matrix sizes of between 0.55" and 0.76". At only 0.65 inches, the Optoma EH331 has a fairly small matrix size compared to most of the other similar spec multimedia projectors that came out around the same time as the EH331.
1 Other reason to consider the Optoma EH331
Average Projector Brightness
With a projector brightness of 3,300 ANSI lumens, the Optoma EH331 has a relatively typical projector brightness compared to most of the other data projectors that have been on the market for a similar time to the EH331.
If this data projector projector brightness is not bright enough for you then you might also want to look at the Acer P1502 (3,400 ANSI lumens), or the Optoma W355 ($680.77) (3,600 ANSI lumens) which is also cheaper.

Total running cost over 5 years
Running costs for this projector have been estimated based on other similar projectors. If you know how much electricity and water the Optoma EH331uses then please let us know by entering those figures in the boxes above.
Running this projector over 5 years will generate 0.38 tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2).
To offset that much CO2 you would need to plant 10 tree seedlings and grow them for 10 years.
