Supports 3D Image Projection

The Optoma DS551 supports 3D image projection, unlike most of the other similar spec projectors that have been on the market for a comparable time to the DS551 which do not support 3D image projection.

We compared this multimedia projector to all the other projectors which support 3D image projection and we think a higher Kagoo Rating™ data projector such as the Barco RLM-W12, the Optoma X315, and the Benq MX711 are also worth considering.

Has a Built-In Speaker

The Optoma DS551 has a built-in speaker, as do most of the other comparable spec data projectors that were launched more than a year ago.

We compared this multimedia projector to all the other projectors with a built-in speaker and we think a higher scoring projector such as the Benq MW811, the NEC NP610 ($800.00), and the Hitachi CP-S240 are also worth considering.

Does Not Support Full HD Projection

Does Not Support WiFi Connectivity

The Optoma DS551 does not support WiFi connectivity, although it is worth keeping in mind that most of the other projectors of a similar spec and age to the DS551 also do not support WiFi connectivity.

There are a number of other multimedia projectors with a WiFi connectivity that you might want to consider including the Gigabyte BRIX ($129.76), the Sony VPL-EW226, or the DELL M900HD.

The highest resolution of the Optoma DS551 is UXGA (1600 x 1200). That's 88% more resolution than a WXGA (1280x800) multimedia projector, which is the most frequently found resolution.

We think you might also be interested in different projectors that have a resolution of UXGA (1600 x 1200) including a better rated product such as the Sony VPL-DX146 ($539.98), or the Sharp XG-P610X-N.

The Optoma DS551 supports a maximum resolution of 1920 x 1080 (HD 1080). That's over four times the resolution of a 800 x 600 (SVGA) data projector, which is the most frequently found resolution supported by projectors that have been on the market for a comparable time to the DS551. In addition, this projector supports a graphics resolution of 1600 x 1200 (UXGA). The best resolution of all multimedia projectors of this age and type is 4096 x 2160 and the worst is 640 x 400.

Average Projector Brightness

The Optoma DS551 has a relatively standard projector brightness (2,800 ANSI lumens) compared to most of the other comparable spec projectors that have been around for more than a year.
