It may also be worth also looking at one of the other projectors with a built-in speaker(s) currently available including because of it's better review score, the DX813, or the DU978-WT both from Vivitek or the Epson 1264 ($504.99).
1400 X 1050 (SXGA+) Supported Graphics Resolutions
The highest resolution supported by the Epson VS340 is 1400 x 1050 (SXGA+). That's over three times the resolution of the most common supported graphics resolutions of 800 x 600 (SVGA) (which is also supported by this data projector). This projector also support supported graphics resolutionss of 1440 x 900 (WXGA+) and 1280 x 800 (WXGA) and 1280 x 1024 (SXGA). Across all data projectors of a comparable spec and age to the VS340 the best resolution is 1920 x 1200 (WUXGA) and the worst is 640 x 480 (VGA).

11 Reasons Against
Inferior Picture Quality
One Epson VS340 owner considered that it did not have good picture quality. Expert review site Pcmag.com wrote “Our testing showed mediocre image quality and a feeble soun” in their review of the Epson VS340.
Does Not Support 3D
The Epson VS340 does not support 3D. Most of the other projectors of a similar age and type to the VS340 also do not support 3D.
Other projectors which also support 3D that you might want to consider include the DH558 ($770.35), the DH976-WT, or the DX813 all from Vivitek which also has a higher rating.
Does Not Support Full HD
Like most of the other 15000:1 contrast ratio data projectors that were launched more than a year ago, the Epson VS340 does not support full HD.
Alternative projectors which also support full HD that you might also want to look at include the 1264 ($504.99), or the 1284 ($794.03) both from Epson or the Vivitek DH913 ($1,099.99) which is also higher rated.

+8 More reasons against
Quite Dim Projector Brightness
With a projector brightness of only 2,800 ANSI lumens, the Epson VS340 has a quite dim projector brightness compared to most of the other 15000:1 contrast ratio data projectors that were launched around the same time as the VS340. The dimmest projector brightness of multimedia projectors that are a comparable age to the VS340 is 2,000 ANSI lumens, the brightest is 5,000 ANSI lumens, and the average projector brightness is 3,300 ANSI lumens.
If you would prefer a brighter projector brightness then you might also want to look at the VS345 ($314.99) (3,000 ANSI lumens), or the EB-S04 (3,000 ANSI lumens) both from Epson or the Vivitek DH558 ($770.35) (3,000 ANSI lumens) which also has a higher rating.
Only XGA (1024x768) Projector Native Resolution
The highest resolution of the Epson VS340 is XGA (1024x768). That's 23% less resolution than the most frequently found projector native resolution of WXGA (1280x800).
An XGA (1024x768) projector native resolution is in fact the worst resolution across all projectors of a comparable type and age to the VS340.
A WUXGA (1920x1200) projector native resolution is the best resolution amongst comparable types of data projector.
Quite Low RMS Rated Power
The Epson VS340 has a very low RMS rated power (only 1 Watt) compared to most of the other comparable spec projectors that were released more than a year ago. 15000:1 contrast ratio data projectors that were released around the same time as the VS340 have RMS rated powers of between 1W and 20W.
Very Low Number of Colours
15000:1 contrast ratio data projectors that are a comparable age to the VS340 have numbers of colours of between 1M and 1,100M. With a number of colours of only 1.07 million, the Epson VS340 has one of the lower numbers of colours amongst projectors of this age.

We compared all the other 37dB noise level data projectors to this projector and we think the EB-U04, and the VS345 ($314.99) both from Epson which has better reviews is also worth considering.
Very Dim White Light Output
Across all the data projectors that came out more than a year ago the white light outputs range from 2,800 ANSI lumens to 3,300 ANSI lumens. The Epson VS340 has a fairly dim white light output (only 2,800 ANSI lumens) compared to most of the other similar spec data projectors that have been on the market for around the same time as the VS340.
