The last few years have seen a massive spike in the number of smart-enabled devices available to buy - your Smart Home can contain smart fridges, smart TVs, smart lights, smart doorbells… the list gets longer everyday. However for every helpful smart appliance on the market, there are several others that don’t seem quite as useful - either faddish, very niche or just plain bizarre.
We’ve alreadylooked at a lot of serious, helpful devices for your Smart Home, so let’s shine a spotlight on some of the weirder examples of smart gadgets currently on the market!
Do you have trouble eating? Maybe you eat too fast, or too much, and long for a fork that lights up and vibrates?
Well search no more - the HAPIFork is here to add some smart technology to your dinner! It will track every motion of your fork, measuring how fast you’re eating, how long it took you to finish your meal and more. This information is relayed via bluetooth to their app, which analyses it to find ways to slow down your eating and aid weight loss and digestive problems. Sounds pretty helpful stuff!
The HAPIFork can also vibrate if you eat too fast, and you can view your ‘meal stats’ in real-time on your phone! Which will probably help slow down your eating even more, since you’ll be checking your phone after every mouthful.
You would think that a smart toilet would be a shortcut to Skynet, but apparently Kohler like to live dangerously. Their ‘intelligent toilets’ push the boundaries of smart bathrooms: built-in Alexa support allows you to flush or close the lid with a simple voice command! It also has ambient lighting and speakers to play ‘ambient music’ - everything a modern toilet could need! You’ll wonder how you lived without it.
If you can’t stand the excitement of a full smart toilet, then take a look at their smart toilet seats - an app-controlled seat with remote heating and adjustable lighting! Apparently it’s “the upgrade your toilet has been waiting for’.
Not content with revolutionising the bathroom, Kohler have turned their attention towards the kitchen, with the Sensate Smart Faucet. It can be controlled entirely using voice commands - so just say ‘turn on cold tap’ to start the water running. The future is here!
The smart faucet is also fully compatible with Apple Homekit and other smart home software, meaning it can be fully integrated with other smart products. The possibilities are endless - you could have your tap turn on every time the doorbell rings!
Sleeping is an area that has seen a concentration of interest from smart tech - sleep trackers can monitor every moment of your snoozing, gathering data to show how well (or badly) you slept. So it’s not surprising someone has taken this to the next level and created a Smart Bed to improve your sleep - automatically tracking your heart rate, temperature, breathing rate and any number of other variables!
It then uses this to modify the bed, adjusting the temperature, hardness of the mattress and shape of the bed - impressively high-tech stuff! It even has a special anti-snoring device, which allows you to adjust your partner’s head, to help reduce snoring. Of course, this kind of tech doesn’t come cheap at all, but what price can you put on improved sleep?
