Canon EOS 70D Nikon D5500
12 Reasons For
Dustproof
The Canon EOS 70D is a dustproof digital camera, whereas the Nikon D5500 is not.

A dustproof digital camera is one that is resistant to dust, and is sealed so that dust and sand can't get into the lens or the mechanics.

A dustproof camera is excellent for shooting in very dry climates or dusty areas, and will prevent accidental damage that would stop a normal camera from working properly.

Bigger Digital Zoom
The Canon EOS 70D is a 10 digital zoom digital camera. That's 2.2x bigger than the Nikon D5500 (7.8x).

The digital zoom of a camera is a measure of how much the camera can zoom in by cropping the image received by the camera's sensor. A digital zoom is not as good as an optical zoom as it will result in a reduction in image quality the further you zoom in. This is because fewer of the camera's pixels are being used to capture the image.

A digital zoom allows you to enlarge the subject but this can result in the image becoming blurry. A digital zoom can be used if an optical zoom is not available.

Multi Burst Mode
The Canon EOS 70D features multi burst mode, whereas the Nikon D5500 does not feature this benefit.

'Multi burst mode' is a special setting on a digital camera to allow it to take multiple photos in very quick succession at a single button press.

Burst mode is very helpful for sports photography, or any time where you are trying to capture a fast-moving subject.

Bigger Eye Relief
Canon EOS 70D is 22 Eye relief, but the Nikon D5500 is only a 17mm Eye relief digital camera (5mm smaller).

Eye relief (also known as eye point) refers to how far away from the eye piece your eye can be and you can still see the full frame of the image that will be taken.

A larger eye relief distance is useful for people who wear glasses, meaning that they can't put their eye directly on the eye piece.

920 Battery Life
The Canon EOS 70D is a digital camera that takes 920 battery life, whereas the Nikon D5500 only takes 820 battery life.

The number of shots per battery charge is the number of photos that the camera will typically take on a single charge of the battery.

More shots per battery charge means you will have to recharge the battery less frequently and reduces the need to carry a second back up battery.

8 Reasons For
335g Lighter
The Nikon D5500 has a weight of 420, however the Canon EOS 70D is a 755g digital camera (335g heavier).

The camera's weight will depend on the type and size of camera. Compact cameras are usually the lightest while digital SLRs will be heavier. Also consider the number and weight of lenses to take when using a SLR.

The lower the camera weight, the easier it will be to carry around and it will also reduce your hand luggage weight when flying.

Higher Megapixels
The Nikon D5500 is a 24.2 digital camera. That's 4MP higher than the Canon EOS 70D (20.2MP).

The resolution of the images a digital camera produces is measured in megapixels (MP). One megapixel is equal to 1 million pixels and is a result of the pixel width multiplied by the pixel height of the image. While a higher image resolution generally results in sharper images, only a relatively low megapixel count is required when printing the image at a small size or to display it on a computer screen.

A sensor with more megapixels will be able to capture more detailed photos and the image will appear sharper. Images with more megapixels can also be printed at a larger size.

4496 X 3000 Still Image Resolution
The Nikon D5500 supports a still image resolution of 4496 x 3000, but the Canon EOS 70D supports a still image resolution of 1280 x 1280.

Image resolution refers to the amount of pixels that make up an photo taken on a digital camera. It is measured as the width x the height of the image - so a 1280 x 720 resolution camera can take a photo that is 1280 pixels wide and 720 pixels tall.

Higher image resolutions mean that the photos are comprised of more pixels, which translate to more detailed and higher quality photos. Also, because they are larger photos, they can be displayed on larger screens or printed out at vastly increased sizes without losing detail.

6% Larger Display Diagonal
Nikon D5500 is 3.2 screen. That's 0.2" larger than the Canon EOS 70D (3").

The display diagonal is the size the size of the screen integrated in to the back of the camera. A larger display diagonal makes it easier to see if a shot has turned out as intended. Pocket cameras have smaller display diagonals as full size digital SLRs.

A larger display diagonal makes it easier to take photos and to see if a shot has turned out as intended.

The size and weight differences between the D5500 and D5300 bodies are marginal but the new camera gives you much better battery capacity and a few additional in-camera processing options, although it lacks the in-camera GPS provided with the D5300.Nikon......
The D5500 is a competent camera that can meet most of the needs of its target market. Upgrading to the D5500 could be justified for buyers who skip a couple of generations, as well as owners of two or three year old D3*** models. The main benefit of the D5......

Weight

The camera's weight will depend on the type and size of camera. Compact cameras are usually the lightest while digital SLRs will be heavier. Also consider the number and weight of lenses to take when using a SLR.

The lower the camera weight, the easier it will be to carry around and it will also reduce your hand luggage weight when flying.

Megapixels

The resolution of the images a digital camera produces is measured in megapixels (MP). One megapixel is equal to 1 million pixels and is a result of the pixel width multiplied by the pixel height of the image. While a higher image resolution generally results in sharper images, only a relatively low megapixel count is required when printing the image at a small size or to display it on a computer screen.

A sensor with more megapixels will be able to capture more detailed photos and the image will appear sharper. Images with more megapixels can also be printed at a larger size.

Digital Zoom

The digital zoom of a camera is a measure of how much the camera can zoom in by cropping the image received by the camera's sensor. A digital zoom is not as good as an optical zoom as it will result in a reduction in image quality the further you zoom in. This is because fewer of the camera's pixels are being used to capture the image.

A digital zoom allows you to enlarge the subject but this can result in the image becoming blurry. A digital zoom can be used if an optical zoom is not available.

Maximum ISO Sensitivity

ISO sensitivity denotes the sensitivity of your camera to available light. Modifying the sensitivity causes the camera to gather more or less light when forming an image. Higher sensitivity gathers more light, which means can lead to a sharper image in low-light conditions. However it may also lead to increased 'noise', meaning the ISO level must be carefully modified to get the best shot.

A higher maximum ISO sensitivity will allow you to take photos in lower light levels without using flash.

Display Diagonal

The display diagonal is the size the size of the screen integrated in to the back of the camera. A larger display diagonal makes it easier to see if a shot has turned out as intended. Pocket cameras have smaller display diagonals as full size digital SLRs.

A larger display diagonal makes it easier to take photos and to see if a shot has turned out as intended.
