6 Reasons For
Sony Has Good Reviews for Its Projectors
Sony has good average reviews for its projectors as well as across its entire data projector range.
Just Released Seven Months Ago
This data projector is one of the newest projectors to be released.
Supports Full HD Projection
The Sony VPL-HW45ES supports Full HD projection, unlike most of the other comparable spec multimedia projectors that were launched around the same time as the VPL-HW45ES which do not support Full HD projection.
We compared this projector to all the other data projectors which support Full HD projection and we think the Epson EH-TW6700[plb_3812541_price], and the Optoma GT5500[plb_3451140_price] which is cheaper is also worth considering.
There are a number of other projectors which also support Full HD projection which you might also want to consider including the EIKI EK-402U[plb_3798180_price].
1080p (1920x1080) Native Projector Resolution
This projector has a native projector resolution of 1080p (1920x1080), which is typical of many latest multimedia projectors.
Two HDMI Ports
The Sony VPL-HW45ES is a two HDMI port projector. Most of the other multimedia projectors that came out around the same time as the VPL-HW45ES have between one and four HDMI ports.
Quite Quiet Noise Level
At only 22 decibels, the VPL-HW45ES has a very quiet noise level compared to most of the other comparable spec projectors that have been around for around the same time as the VPL-HW45ES. The quietest noise level of projectors that have been available for a similar time to the VPL-HW45ES is 22dB, the loudest is 40dB, and the average noise level is 33dB.
Alternative projectors with a louder noise level that you might want to look at include the Philips HDP2510[plb_3417481_price] (32dB and cheaper).

6 Reasons Against
Does Not Have a Built-In Speaker
The VPL-HW45ES does not have a built-in speaker, unlike most of the other projectors that were released in the last year.
We compared all the other data projectors which also have a built-in speaker to this multimedia projector and we think the Viewsonic PRO8510L[plb_3737737_price], or the Epson EH-TW6700[plb_3812541_price] which is also cheaper is also worth considering.
Does Not Support 3D Image Projection
Most of the other recently released projectors support 3D image projection, however the VPL-HW45ES does not support 3D image projection.
We compared all the other multimedia projectors which also support 3D image projection to this projector and we think the Viewsonic PRO8510L[plb_3737737_price], or the Epson EH-TW6700[plb_3812541_price] which is also cheaper is also worth considering.
Does Not Support WiFi Connectivity
Like most of the other recently released projectors, the Sony VPL-HW45ES does not support WiFi connectivity.
Very Dim Projector Brightness
The average projector brightness of similar spec multimedia projectors that were launched around the same time as the VPL-HW45ES is 3,900 ANSI lumens, and the projector brightness range from 37 ANSI lumens to 8,200 ANSI lumens. With a projector brightness of only 1,800 ANSI lumen, the VPL-HW45ES has one of the dimmer projector brightness amongst projectors of this age.
If you are looking for a brighter projector brightness then you might want to consider the Epson EH-TW6700[plb_3812541_price] (3,000 ANSI lumens), or the EIKI EK-401W[plb_3798176_price] (4,600 ANSI lumens) which is also cheaper.
+3 More reasons against
Only One VGA (D-Sub) Port
The VPL-HW45ES is a one VGA (D-Sub) port projector. Most of the other projectors that were released in the last year have between one and two VGA (D-Sub) ports.
Only One Audio in Port
Most projectors that are a comparable age to the VPL-HW45ES have between one and two audio in ports, including the Sony VPL-HW45ES which has one audio in port.
