Has a Built-In Speaker

The Optoma ML550 has a built-in speaker. Most of the other projectors of a similar age and type to the ML550 also have a built-in speaker.

There are a number of other projectors with a built-in speaker currently available that you might also want to look at including the Benq W1500 which has better reviews.

The highest resolution supported by the Optoma ML550 is 1920 x 1080 (HD 1080). That's over six times the resolution of the most common graphics resolution of 640 x 480 (VGA) (which is also supported by this data projector). In addition, this multimedia projector support graphics resolutions of 1024 x 768 (XGA), 1280 x 1024 (SXGA), 1280 x 768 (WXGA), 1280 x 800 (WXGA), 1400 x 1050 (SXGA+), 1440 x 900 (WXGA+) and 1680 x 1050 (WSXGA+) and 800 x 600 (SVGA). Projectors of a comparable age and type to the ML550 graphics resolutions range from 640 x 480 (VGA) (worst) to 1920 x 1200 (WUXGA) (best).

One Optoma ML550 owner said in their reviews that it was not noisy. Expert review site Tbreak.ae mentioned in their review “Projectors have certainly come a long way from being the massive, noisy, poor-performing beasts that were exiled to conference rooms”.

Very Dim Projector Brightness

The projector brightness of data projectors of a similar age and type to the ML550 range from 300 ANSI lumens to 20,000 ANSI lumens, and the average projector brightness is 3,400 ANSI lumens. At only 550 ANSI lumens, the Optoma ML550 has a quite dim projector brightness compared to most of the other multimedia projectors of a comparable type and age to the ML550.

If you would prefer a brighter projector brightness then you might also want to consider the Infocus IN1146 ($721.33) (1,000 ANSI lumens), or the Benq W1300 (2,000 ANSI lumens).

Most 10000:1 contrast ratio multimedia projectors that are a similar age to the ML550 do not support Full HD projection. The Optoma ML550 is no exception to this as it too does not support Full HD projection.

The Optoma ML550 does not support WiFi connectivity, although it is worth noting that most of the other data projectors of this type and age also do not support WiFi connectivity.

It is worth considering alternative projectors which also support WiFi connectivity including the Benq W1500 which also has a higher rating.
