We checked the reviews from users and experts of hundreds of projectors to determine an average rating for each multimedia projector manufacturer. On average NEC multimedia projectors have good reviews from experts and owners.

Supports 3D Image Projection

The NEC U250X supports 3D image projection, which is unusual. Most of the other data projectors of a comparable age and spec to the U250X do not support 3D image projection.

We compared this multimedia projector to all the other data projectors which support 3D image projection and we think cheaper data projectors such as the Optoma EH505, the Vivitek D5110W-WNL, and the Hitachi CP-DH300 is also worth considering.

Has a Built-In Speaker

The NEC U250X has a built-in speaker, as do most of the other projectors that are a comparable age to the U250X.

We compared all the other projectors with a built-in speaker to this projector and we think the Epson PowerLite 1761W ($649.99) which has better reviews; or the Vivitek D5110W-WNL which is cheaper are also worth considering.

1400 X 1050 (SXGA+) Graphics Resolution

The NEC U250X supports a maximum resolution of 1400 x 1050 (SXGA+). That's over four times the resolution of a 640 x 480 (VGA) multimedia projector, which is the most common resolution supported by similar spec projectors that were released more than two years ago. 640 x 480 (VGA) is also supported by this multimedia projector. This data projector also support graphics resolutions of 1024 x 768 (XGA) and 1280 x 1024 (SXGA) and 800 x 600 (SVGA). Across all multimedia projectors that were released more than two years ago the best resolution is 1920 x 1200 (WUXGA) and the worst is 640 x 480 (VGA).

Quite Quiet Noise Level

The NEC U250X has one of the quieter noise levels (only 33 decibels) amongst similar spec data projectors of this age. Projectors of this age and spec have noise levels of between 28dB and 42dB, and the average noise level is 36dB.

Other projectors with a louder noise level that you might want to look at include the Sony VPLFH31 ($3,029.95) (37dB) which is also cheaper.

Does Not Support Full HD Projection

Like most of the other 2000:1 contrast ratio data projectors that were launched more than two years ago, the NEC U250X does not support Full HD projection.

There are a number of alternative multimedia projectors which also support Full HD projection which you might also want to look at including the Sony VPLFH31 ($3,029.95), the Vivitek D5110W-WNL, or the Optoma EH505.

Most 2000:1 contrast ratio data projectors that have been on the market for more than two years do not support WiFi connectivity. The NEC U250X is no exception to this as it too does not support WiFi connectivity.

It is worth also looking at alternative projectors which also support WiFi connectivity including the Epson PowerLite 1761W ($649.99) which is also higher rated.

The dimmest projector brightness of projectors of a similar type and age to the U250X is 110 ANSI lumens and the brightest is 10,000 ANSI lumens. At only 2,500 ANSI lumens, the NEC U250X has a fairly dim projector brightness compared to most of the other multimedia projectors that were released more than two years ago.

Projectors with a brighter projector brightness that might be worth considering include the Epson PowerLite 1761W ($649.99) (2,600 ANSI lumens and higher rated); or the Hitachi CP-DH300 (3,000 ANSI lumens and cheaper).
