We compared this projector to all the other projectors with a built-in speaker and we think the Acer X1311, the Epson EB-S031, and the NEC NP-M402X ($959.00) which has better reviews is also worth considering.

The PowerLite X17 supports a maximum resolution of 1600 x 1200 (UXGA). That's over six times the resolution of the most frequently found graphics resolution of 640 x 480 (VGA) (which is also supported by this multimedia projector). In addition, this Epson data projector support graphics resolutions of 1280 x 800, 1280 x 960, 1280 x 1024 (SXGA), 1280 x 800 (WXGA), 1366 х 768, 1400 x 1050 (SXGA+) and 1440 x 900 (WXGA+) and 800 x 600 (SVGA). 10000:1 contrast ratio multimedia projectors that were launched around the same time as the PowerLite X17 graphics resolutions range from 640 x 480 (VGA) (worst) to 1920 x 1200 (WUXGA) (best).

Like most of the other projectors of a comparable spec and age to the PowerLite X17, the PowerLite X17 does not support Full HD projection.

We think you might also be interested in other data projectors which also support Full HD projection including the X1311, or the H6520 both from Acer or the NEC NP-M282 ($599.00) which is also higher rated.

Does Not Support WiFi Connectivity

The PowerLite X17 does not support WiFi connectivity, although keep in mind that most of the other 10000:1 contrast ratio multimedia projectors that came out more than two years ago also do not support WiFi connectivity.

There are a number of other projectors which also support WiFi connectivity which you might want to consider including the PowerLite 1222 ($695.00), or the 1985WU ($1,888.56) both from Epson or the Benq W1500 which also has a higher rating.

Quite Dim Projector Brightness

The average projector brightness of projectors of this type and age is 3,400 ANSI lumens, and the projector brightness range from 300 ANSI lumens to 20,000 ANSI lumens. With a projector brightness of only 2,700 ANSI lumens, the PowerLite X17 has a quite dim projector brightness compared to most of the other projectors of this age and type.

It may also be worth also looking at one of the alternative 2,700 ANSI lumens brightness multimedia projectors currently available including because of it's better review score, the X1311, or the X1340 both from Acer or the Epson EB-S031.

If this Epson multimedia projector projector brightness is too dim for you then you might want to look at the PT-LB280E (2,800 ANSI lumens), or the PT-TW250 ($736.95) (2,800 ANSI lumens) both from Panasonic or the NEC NP-M282 ($599.00) (2,800 ANSI lumens) which also has a higher rating.
