Epson has good average ratings for its 10000:1 contrast ratio multimedia projectors as well as across its entire projector range compared to other brands.

Good Product Quality

A number of people who purchased this projector considered that it was good quality. Pcmag.com wrote “It provides good text quality and a wide range of connection choices” in their review.

Good Technical Features

One Epson PowerLite W17 reviewer who reviewed the Epson PowerLite W17 thought it had good features. Pcmag.com mentioned on expert review site PC Mag two years ago “Though there are models with more features or better performa” in their Epson PowerLite W17 review.

Acceptable Noise Level

One person mentioned in their reviews that the product was noisy. Pc Mag gave it a rating of 70 out of 100 and mentioned two years ago “Reasonably loud audio”.

The Epson PowerLite W17 supports a maximum resolution of 1600 x 1200 (UXGA). That's over six times the resolution of the most common graphics resolution of 640 x 480 (VGA) (which is also supported by this data projector). In addition, this Epson data projector support graphics resolutions of 1280 x 960, 1366 x 768, 1024 x 768 (XGA), 1280 x 1024 (SXGA), 1400 x 1050 (SXGA+) and 1440 x 900 (WXGA+) and 800 x 600 (SVGA). Across all projectors of a comparable age and type to the PowerLite W17 the worst resolution is 640 x 480 (VGA) and the best is 1920 x 1200 (WUXGA).

Does Not Support 3D Image Projection

The PowerLite W17 does not support 3D image projection, although it is worth noting that most of the other data projectors that have been available for more than two years also do not support 3D image projection.

Other data projectors which also support 3D image projection that you might want to look at include the Acer X1111, the NEC NP-M332 ($959.00), or the Optoma EW631 which also has a higher rating.

Does Not Support Full HD Projection

The PowerLite W17 does not support Full HD projection. Most of the other 10000:1 contrast ratio multimedia projectors that have been around for more than two years also do not support Full HD projection.

We think you might also be interested in other multimedia projectors which also support Full HD projection including the X1311, or the H6520 both from Acer or the NEC NP-M282 ($599.00).

Does Not Support WiFi Connectivity

Like most of the other data projectors of this spec and age, the PowerLite W17 does not support WiFi connectivity.

There are a number of other projectors which also support WiFi connectivity which you might also want to consider including the PowerLite 1222 ($695.00), or the 1985WU ($1,888.56) both from Epson or the Benq W1500 which also has a higher rating.

The PowerLite W17 has one of the smaller lamp power (only 200 Watts) amongst 10000:1 contrast ratio multimedia projectors of this age. Similar spec data projectors that are a comparable age to the PowerLite W17 have lamp power of between 15W and 470W.

Average Noise Level

At 37 decibels, the PowerLite W17 has a pretty average noise level compared to most of the other projectors that have been available for a comparable time to the PowerLite W17.

We compared all the other 37dB noise level multimedia projectors to this multimedia projector and we think the EB-W03, the EB-W18, and the EB-W22 all from Epson which has better reviews is also worth considering.

Average Projector Brightness

With a projector brightness of 2,800 ANSI lumens, the PowerLite W17 has a pretty typical projector brightness compared to most of the other 10000:1 contrast ratio multimedia projectors that were launched around the same time as the PowerLite W17.

We think you might also be interested in some of the other 2,800 ANSI lumens brightness projectors currently available including because of it's better review score, the Infocus IN134 ($1,221.85).

If you would prefer a brighter projector brightness then you might want to consider the Epson PowerLite X21 (3,000 ANSI lumens), or the Acer H9505 (3,000 ANSI lumens) which is also higher rated.
