8 Reasons For

One Industry Award

Projectorreviews.com gave this data projector a "Hot Product" award.

Epson Projectors Have Good Reviews

10000:1 contrast ratio multimedia projectors manufactured by Epson have good reviews on average compared to other manufacturers. We also checked the reviews for all multimedia projectors (not just 10000:1 contrast ratio multimedia projectors) and found that Epson also has good reviews across its entire range.

Has a Built-In Speaker

The PowerLite 97H has a built-in speaker, as do most of the other projectors of this age and spec.

We compared this multimedia projector to all the other data projectors with a built-in speaker and we think because of it's better review score, the Acer H6517ST, the Epson 98H ($561.99), and the NEC NP-M283X ($471.99) is also worth considering.

1600 X 1200 (UXGA) Graphics Resolution

The highest resolution supported by the PowerLite 97H is 1600 x 1200 (UXGA). That's over six times the resolution of the most frequently found graphics resolution of 640 x 480 (VGA) (which is also supported by this multimedia projector). This data projector also support graphics resolutions of 1280 x 960, 1366 x 768, 1280 x 1024 (SXGA), 1280 x 800 (WXGA), 1400 x 1050 (SXGA+) and 1440 x 900 (WXGA+) and 800 x 600 (SVGA). The worst resolution of all 10000:1 contrast ratio multimedia projectors that came out around the same time as the PowerLite 97H is 640 x 480 (VGA) and the best is 1920 x 1200 (WUXGA).

Chart Edit

Two Audio in Ports

The PowerLite 97H is a two audio in port multimedia projector.

Chart Edit

100V AC Input Voltage

This projector has a 100 - 240V AC input voltage, which is typical of many multimedia projectors of a similar spec and age to it.

Chart Edit

10 Mbit/s Ethernet LAN Data Transfer Rate

11 Reasons Against

Inferior Remote Control

One customer mentioned that it did not have a good remote control. In November last year Projectorreviews.com wrote “Remote can be difficult to operate in a dark room, since it has no backlight, dust filter that must be maintained”.

Inferior Picture Quality

One Epson PowerLite 97H owner said that it did not have a good contrast ratio. Projectorreviews.com said “A relatively high black level and a modest contrast ratio means this projector is not” in their review of the Epson PowerLite 97H.

Does Not Support Full HD Projection

The PowerLite 97H does not support Full HD projection, unlike most of the other 10000:1 contrast ratio multimedia projectors that have been available for around the same time as the PowerLite 97H which support Full HD projection.

We compared this projector to all the other projectors with a Full HD projection and we think the Acer H6517ST, the NEC NP-U321H-WK ($2,449.00), or the Epson Home Cinema 600 ($349.00) which also has a higher rating is also worth considering.

Read more Less Chart Edit

Does Not Support 3D Image Projection

The Epson PowerLite 97H does not support 3D image projection. Most of the other data projectors that were launched more than a year ago do support 3D image projection.

It is worth considering other data projectors which also support 3D image projection including the NP-M363W ($914.69), or the NP-M403X ($761.99) both from NEC or the Optoma W515.

Does Not Support WiFi Connectivity

Most multimedia projectors of this age and type do not support WiFi connectivity. The Epson PowerLite 97H is no exception to this as it too does not support WiFi connectivity.

Alternative projectors which also support WiFi connectivity that you might also want to consider include the Powerlite W28+, or the EX7235 ($649.95) both from Epson or the Hitachi CP-AW2505 which also has a higher rating.

Quite Dim Projector Brightness

The Epson PowerLite 97H has a fairly dim projector brightness (only 2,700 ANSI lumens) compared to most of the other projectors of a similar spec and age to the PowerLite 97H. The average projector brightness of 10000:1 contrast ratio multimedia projectors that have been around for around the same time as the PowerLite 97H is 3,600 ANSI lumens.

We compared all the other 2,700 ANSI lumens brightness multimedia projectors to this multimedia projector and we think because of it's better review score, the EB-X27, and the PowerLite S27 ($200.00) both from Epson or the Hitachi CP-TW2505 ($1,392.99) is also worth considering.

If you are looking for a data projector with a brighter projector brightness then you might want to consider the H6517ST ($430.00) (3,000 ANSI lumens and higher rated), the H9505BD (3,000 ANSI lumens and higher rated), or the P1500 ($543.99) (3,000 ANSI lumens and higher rated) all from Acer.
