7 Reasons For

Good Brand

Projectors built by Benq generally have good reviews compared to other brands.

Only Released Four Months Ago

Benq only released the i500 four months ago.

Good Size

One Benq i500 reviewer who reviewed it mentioned that it was lightweight. Hometheaterhifi.com wrote in October “Add to that a lightweight portable chassis and you've got a potenti” in their review of this projector.

Has a Built-In Speaker

The Benq i500 has a built-in speaker. Most of the other 100000:1 contrast ratio data projectors that were launched in the last 12 months also have a built-in speaker.

Other multimedia projectors with a built-in speaker currently available which you might want to consider include the PH550G[pl_3355158_price], or the PH550[pl_3420054_price] both from LG which has better reviews.

1600 X 1200 (UXGA) Graphics Resolution

The highest resolution supported by the Benq i500 is 1600 x 1200 (UXGA). That's over six times the resolution of the most frequently found graphics resolution of 640 x 480 (VGA) (which is also supported by this multimedia projector).

A 1600 x 1200 (UXGA) graphics resolution is actually the best supported resolution across all projectors that are a similar age to the i500.

A 640 x 480 (VGA) graphics resolution is the worst supported resolution across similar types of data projector.

Supports Four Video Formats

The Benq i500 has a greater number of supported video formats than most projectors that were released around the same time as it. This data projector supports an AVI video format, which is the most frequently supported video format supported by projectors that have been available for around the same time as the i500. The video formats "MPEG1", "MPG" and "XVID" are also supported by this Benq data projector.

Chart Edit

Supports Two Image Formats

The number of supported image formats on the Benq i500 is more than most similar spec multimedia projectors that came out in the last year. This projector supports a JPG image format, which is the most commonly supported image format supported by recently released data projectors. The image format "BMP" is also supported by this multimedia projector.

Chart Edit

4 Reasons Against

Does Not Support 3D Image Projection

The Benq i500 does not support 3D image projection, unlike most of the other comparable spec data projectors that have been around for around the same time as the i500.

There are a number of other data projectors which also support 3D image projection that you might also want to look at including the PH550G[pl_3355158_price], or the PH550[pl_3420054_price] both from LG which is also higher rated.

Does Not Support Full HD Projection

The Benq i500 does not support Full HD projection, although this is within the context that most of the other similar spec data projectors that were released in the last year also do not support Full HD projection.

We compared all the other projectors which also support Full HD projection to this projector and we think the Acer K650i[plb_3387400_price], or the EIKI EK-600U[plb_3798187_price] is also worth considering.

Does Not Support WiFi Connectivity

Most 100000:1 contrast ratio data projectors that were released in the last 12 months do not support WiFi connectivity. The Benq i500 is no exception to this as it too does not support WiFi connectivity.

It is worth also looking at other projectors which also support WiFi connectivity including the LG PH550[plb_3420054_price] which also has a higher rating.

Very Dim Projector Brightness

At only 500 ANSI lumens, the Benq i500 has a quite dim projector brightness compared to most of the other new 100000:1 contrast ratio data projectors. Newly released similar spec projectors have projector brightness of between 300 ANSI lumens and 8,000 ANSI lumens, and the average projector brightness is 2,600 ANSI lumens.

If you want a projector with a brighter projector brightness then you might want to consider the EIKI EK-600U[plb_3798187_price] (6,000 ANSI lumens).

2 Other reasons to consider the Benq i500

WXGA (1280x800) Native Projector Resolution

This projector has a native projector resolution of WXGA (1280x800), which is the most frequently found native projector resolution on similar spec projectors that have been available for the last year.

Chart Edit

Average Noise Level

At 30 decibels, the Benq i500 has a fairly average noise level compared to most of the other new comparable spec projectors.

If you would consider a data projector with a louder noise level then you might want to look at the Benq LU9235[plb_3537221_price] (36dB), or the Acer K650i[plb_3387400_price] (29dB).
