7 Reasons For
Acer Has Good Reviews for Its Flatpanel Monitors
Based on 3,402 owner and expert reviews, Acer has good reviews for its LCD screens. Acer also has good reviews specifically within its small monitors range.
Has a Built-In Speaker
Unlike most of the other similar spec LCD screens that came out more than two years ago which do not have a built-in speaker, the Acer B196 has a built-in speaker.
It may also be worth considering one of the alternative PC screens with a built-in speaker currently available including the Asus VK207 which has better reviews; or the Edge10 C185k which is cheaper.
We compared this LCD screen to all the other LCD screens with a built-in speaker and we think the Neovo SC-17 ($174.90) is also worth considering.
Has Three Cables Included
The Acer B196 has a greater number of cables included than most PC displays that were launched around the same time as it. This PC screen has a VGA cable included, which is the most commonly found cable included found on PC displays of this age and type. The cables included "AC" and "DVI" are also found on this flatpanel monitor.
Quite High Maximum Height Adjustment
When compared to other similar spec PC screens that have been around for more than two years that we have checked, the Acer B196's maximum height adjustment of 150 millimeters is one of the highest. The average maximum height adjustment of PC screens that were launched around the same time as the B196 is 120mm, and the maximum height adjustments range from 50mm to 350mm.
1440 X 900 Graphics Resolution
The Acer B196 has a maximum resolution of 1440 x 900. That's 1% more resolution than a 1280 x 1024 (SXGA) LCD screen, which is the most common resolution. Across all small monitors that have been around for around the same time as the B196 the worst resolution is 640 x 350 and the best is 1920 x 1080 (HD 1080).
Quite Wide Horizontal Viewing Angle
With a horizontal viewing angle of 170 degrees, the Acer B196 has one of the wider horizontal viewing angles amongst small monitors of this age. Across all the small monitors that came out more than two years ago the horizontal viewing angles range from 40° to 180°.
+2 More reasons for
Fairly Big Display Diagonal
The Acer B196 has a quite big display diagonal (48.3 centimeters) compared to most of the other LCD screens that have been around for more than two years. The smallest display diagonal of small monitors that were launched around the same time as the B196 is 8.9cm, the biggest is 440cm, and the average display diagonal is 48cm.
3 Reasons Against
Not 3D Compatible
Like most of the other small monitors that have been around for around the same time as the B196, the Acer B196 is not 3D compatible.
PC screens which are 3D compatible that might also be worth considering include the Samsung SMT-1934 ($383.99), or the Neovo C-17 which is also cheaper.
Does Not Have an Integrated Card Reader
The Acer B196 does not have an integrated card reader. Most of the other LCD screens of this age and type also do not have an integrated card reader.
Does Not Have a Built-In Camera
The Acer B196 does not have a built-in camera, although it is worth keeping in mind that most of the other small monitors that have been available for around the same time as the B196 also do not have a built-in camera.
There are a number of alternative PC screens which also have a built-in camera which you might also want to consider including the Asus VK207 which is also higher rated.
3 Other reasons to consider the Acer B196

LCD Display Type
The Acer B196 has an LCD display type which is better than most similar spec PC displays that came out around the same time as it. Most PC monitors of a similar age and spec to it have an LED display type.
It may also be worth considering one of the other PC displays that have an LCD Display currently available including the NEC E171M-BK ($132.99) which has better reviews.
