One Acer 196L reviewer who reviewed it concluded that it was thick. Ann said on Amazon last year “The more usual wider screens seem to give a slightly distorted view of things” and scored the Acer 196L 99 out of 100.

The highest contrast ratio of the Acer 196L is 100000000:1. That's over five times the contrast ratio of a 20000000:1 PC screen, which is the most frequently found contrast ratio.
A 100000000:1 dynamic contrast ratio is actually the best contrast ratio amongst all PC screens that came out around the same time as the 196L.
A Mega Contrast dynamic contrast ratio is the worst contrast ratio amongst similar types of PC screen.
There are a number of other PC monitors that have a 100000000:1 dynamic contrast ratio currently available which you might want to consider including the 176L, or the S191HQLMb both from Acer or the Packard Bell Viseo 193DX which is cheaper.
Has a Built-In Speaker
The Acer 196L has a built-in speaker, unlike most of the other flatpanel monitors of a similar spec and age to the 196L which do not have a built-in speaker.
We compared all the other PC monitors with a built-in speaker to this PC display and we think cheaper LCD screens such as the Edge10 EB190H, and the Neovo C-17 is also worth considering.

Does Not Have an Integrated Card Reader
Like most of the other LCD screens of a comparable age and type to the 196L, the Acer 196L does not have an integrated card reader.
There are a number of other flatpanel monitors which also have an integrated card reader which you might want to look at including the Samsung LS20C300 which is also cheaper.
Very Low RMS Rated Audio Power
The lowest RMS rated audio power of flatpanel monitors of this type and age is 0.5W and the highest is 10W. At only 1 Watt, the Acer 196L has a quite low RMS rated audio power compared to most of the other small monitors that are a similar age to the 196L.

1280 X 1024 Pixels Display Resolution
This PC display has a display resolution of 1280 x 1024 pixels, which is the most commonly found display resolution on small monitors that were launched around the same time as it.
There are a number of other PC screens that have a display resolution of 1280 x 1024 pixels currently available which you might want to consider including the E1780SD, or the B1780SD both from iiyama which has a better Rating.
The Acer 196L has a fairly standard width (406 millimeters) compared to most of the other flatpanel monitors of this age and type.
