The IXUS 165 has a CCD sensor type which is better than most cameras of a comparable age and spec to it. Most comparable spec digital cameras that came out around the same time as it have a MOS sensor type. CCD sensors produce high quality, low-noise images but consume a lot more power than CMOS sensors. CCD is the most common image sensor type used in digital cameras.
This camera's sensor type (CCD) is actually the best sensor type amongst all Compact camera digital cameras that are a comparable age to the IXUS 165.
The worst sensor type amongst similar types of camera is MOS.
We compared all the other digital cameras that have a CCD sensor to this camera and we think because of it's better review score, the Canon IXUS 170, the Panasonic Lumix DMC-SZ10 ($184.77), and the Sony DSC-W830 is also worth considering.
