Sony has good average ratings for its camcorders as well as across its entire video camera range compared to other manufacturers.

Good Quality Lens

A number of Sony HDR-XR200 owners who bought the Sony HDR-XR200 said that it had a good image stabiliser. Expert review site Pcauthority.com.au said “Sony is pitching Active SteadyShot as a sort of super stabilisation, proudly proclaiming it to b” in their review. Seven years ago Cnet.com.au gave this camcorder a rating of 4 stars and mentioned in their review of the Sony HDR-XR200 on CNET.com.au “It's the active image stabilisation system that finally makes shooting lengthy handheld movies or on-the-go videos a viable option, which elevates this camera from average to good”. Pcworld.com_techhive.com mentioned “Active image stabilisation removes all shake, bar earthquakes”.

Good Product Quality

Three Sony HDR-XR200 owners considered that the product was good quality. Seven years ago Electronicsme.com wrote “The unit is well made, compact and easy to operate”. Pcworld.com_techhive.com mentioned in their review of this camcorder “Good video quality under bright light” . Pcworld.com_techhive.com also said “Stunning Full HD picture quality”.

A few Sony HDR-XR200 owners reckoned that it had good features. Expert review site Pcadvisor.co.uk wrote “HDR-XR200V The GPS-enabled Sony Handycam HDR-XR200V certainly sports innovative features.” in their review and gave it a score of 70 out of 100. Six years ago Pcworld.com_techhive.com mentioned “120GB hard drive, inbuilt GPS and geo-tagging, plenty of modes and features”.

A number of customers thought it had gps. Pcauthority.com.au mentioned seven years ago “The Sony HDR-XR200VE stands out because in addition to a built-in GPS receiver to tag your videos”. Pcauthority.com.au also wrote “Has an inbuilt GPS receiver”. Expert website Goodgearguide.com.au gave the product a rating of 80 out of 100 and said in their review of the Sony HDR-XR200 “In addition to built-in GPS and geo-tagging”.

Does Not Have an Image Stabiliser

Most camcorders of a similar spec and age to the HDR-XR200 do not have an image stabiliser. The HDR-XR200 is no exception to this as it too does not have an image stabiliser.

The HDR-XR200 does not have a built-in projector, although this is within the context that most of the other video cameras of a similar type and age to the HDR-XR200 also do not have a built-in projector.

We compared all the other video cameras which also have a built-in projector to this video camera and we think the Sony HDR-PJ420 is also worth considering.

Not 3D Compatible

Like most of the other camcorders of a similar age and type to the HDR-XR200, the HDR-XR200 is not 3D compatible.

If you want a video camera that is 3D compatible then you might want to look at the Sony HDR-TD20VE which is also higher rated.
